depends on what type of hair you have. i would say just use some protection oil (if you're blacK) or put some hair spray (if you're white) that is specifically used to protect your hair from heat damage. your hair won't get seriously damaged unless you use it a lot. i use it between 1-5 days a week and it's okay as long as i keep it moisturized and don't over kill the straighting. good luck! :)
a cheap straightener will just fry it. i know when i straightened with a cheap straightener my hair got really bad split ends.

however, when i use straighteners with pure ceramic plates (not just ceramic coated, but all ceramic) my hair does not get nearly as damaged

also, dont be afraid of straighteners, just use a good straightener (whcih will unfortunately cost you at least $60) and take care of your hair. deep condition, try not to blow dry on the hottest setting, and let your hair rest from time to time
Ceramic hair tools are becoming very popular in professional beauty industry, especially ceramic hair dryers and ceramic flat irons (such as Sedu Ceramic flat iron). Ceramic is believed to generate negative ions during use. When hair becomes entirely charged by static electricity (positive electrical charges produced by dry friction and natural movement of the hair), it tends to spread out and become difficult to style. The hair cuticles open, resulting in dull, unhealthy hair. The negatively charged molecules generated by ceramic products smooth and relax the hair by canceling static electricity. The ceramic flat iron assists in making hair more manageable, by generating a negative ionic field.

You can still straighten your hair though, there are some heat sprays that you can buy, only 3 or 4 dollars that protect your hair when using heat tools. you can also get regular trims to help your hair.

Hope this helps!!! :)
make sure that the iron is 2000watts becos if it isnt then it will be a waste of time. The iron actually straightens with heat and if not applied properly will burn your hair and thatz how bad it will be...too fizzy to do anything about and too think to comb down
